Positive Research

I originally saw this video on Facebook, and decided to research it further.  The title of this video is Fire with Fire. This is an amazing advancement in medical technology.  These doctors have taken the HIV virus and made it no longer harmful.  What they do is they take part of the cancer from the patient and put it with the non harmful HIV and reprogram the cells to attach the cancer. In this specific situation the girls cancer went into remission.  This treatment has been testing with other patients before, but it has only been used on patients that have leukemia or lymphoma.  They are working on testing out theories on other cancer treatments.
When I saw this video I astounded that medicine has come this far, that we are working with a strong lead on how to cure cancer.  I was skeptical about the research findings, and did research of my own, and concluded that it is quality research.  If you would like to see part of the study from the Dr. that is working on the trial click here: http://www.med.upenn.edu/apps/faculty/index.php/g275/p2328

It is truly inspiring the way that this research has positively impacted young children and their families.

  1. Hi Jessica,

Your blog post this week is really inspiring. There is no limits to what can happen with research. This study is a perfect example. I saw this as well and I was so amazed at what the research results were. This would be a positive research effort that would make a lot of families happy. I am hopeful that researchers will find a cure for cancer. Great post Jessica!

  2. Jessica,

That video literally made me tear up! Thank you for sharing--it was extraordinarily inspiring. In my blog, I also mentioned researching a cure for cancer. If I had no limitations and if I had the knowledge to do so, I would 100% research ways to cure cancer in children, just like the doctor in the video.

  3. It is unfortunate that our new reality is we live in a time where cancer affects someone in our family or we have close ones around us whose family members or friends are affected by cancer. Anytime we learn that the cancer has gone into remission is great news to hear. It's especially great when it's a child. I always try to support the fight against cancer because its an ugly disease and it's time that we find a cure. I think your post this week is amazing. Great story!

  4. Jessica,

This was a very inspiring video and how amazing to see such a young child suffer so much and through this research was able to recover and life a healthy life. Advances in treatment continue to take steps forward which are very promising, but still everyone is different and react differently to treatments. Research is very important especially in the early childhood field. Thank you for sharing such a positive example of research.
